Small Bites

Life is not lived in grand leaps but in small bites. Each day offers us countless opportunities to choose God—in prayer, in worship, in kindness, in generosity.
Our hope is eternal: that one day we will be welcomed into heaven. But our path there is walked one small step at a time. Daily prayer. Weekly Mass. A quiet act of selflessness. A word of encouragement. A hidden sacrifice.
When one of our daughters was very young, she choked while eating a hot dog. Even though the food had been cut into bite sizes, she still couldn’t swallow. We had to call 911. I performed the Heimlich maneuver, and—thanks be to God—she was okay. But the moment never left us. For years afterward, every meal became a reminder: take small bites.
The same is true in faith. The daily “small bites” of prayer and devotion shape our relationship with God. Prayer is not just a desperate plea when we need Him—it is an active, ongoing conversation that builds intimacy and trust. Small bites of obedience, practiced day after day, form us into disciples who truly know Him.
So when our time comes, and He calls us home, we will not be strangers at heaven’s door. He will know us, and we will know Him. And He will welcome us into His kingdom for eternal life.
Jesus said: “I am the bread of life. Whoever comes to me will never go hungry, and whoever believes in me will never be thirsty.” (John 6:35)
Take small bites. Daily and faithfully. They lead to the feast of eternity.
