Don’t Hesitate: Say Yes to the Invitation

There are invitations you expect in life—birthdays, dinners, holidays. And then there are the ones that come quietly, simply, almost unnoticed… but carry eternity within them. Last week, my teenage daughter looked at me and said: “Dad, will you go to 6:30 AM Mass with me on Monday? Maybe afterwards we could get a coffee before school?” A simple question. A small invitation. And I hesitated. I never hesitate.

Just days earlier, I had been the one considering daily Mass at 6:30 AM. I even asked her if she’d mind if I started going again. I wanted to get back into the routine, but I stopped myself because I didn’t want to miss seeing her in the mornings. Those few minutes matter to me. She hesitated too—I could see it. She liked seeing me each morning. Quiet. Present. Praying. Even if we barely spoke. Every morning she walks into the kitchen, sends a subtle wave, grabs breakfast, and we share a moment. Small, familiar, simple. But profound.

That morning, when she asked me to join her at Mass, I felt the weight of it. Not the inconvenience. Not the early hour. But the invitation. Not just from my daughter. From Jesus. An invitation to spend time with Him—together. And I almost missed it.

Why do we hesitate when heaven opens a door? Why do we pause when love asks us to step closer? Most of life’s sacred moments aren’t loud. They’re not brilliant. They’re not life-changing on the surface. They’re silent. Ordinary. Soft. But that doesn’t make them small. Time is love. Presence is love. Saying yes is love. And love—especially between a father and a child—is a reflection of the Father’s love for us.

So here’s my invitation to you, the one I’m learning to accept myself: When God nudges you… don’t hesitate. When someone you love asks for your time… say yes. When the Holy Spirit whispers an opportunity for togetherness… show up. Even if it’s early. Even if it’s simple. Even if it doesn’t feel profound. Because the quiet moments—the ones easy to overlook—are often the ones God chooses to shape the heart.

Say yes. Go. Show up. Be there. For this is love. A father’s love for his daughter. And the Father’s love for His children.

“Behold, I stand at the door and knock.

If anyone hears my voice and opens the door, I will come in to him and eat with him, and he with me.” — Revelation 3:20
